1) Starting the switch from Quicken (Fie upon you, Intuit! Fie, I say!) to iBank so I can upgrade to OS X Lion. Quicken and Photoshop were the last two PPC programs I needed to replace; thankfully, the current version of PS works in Lion, so I just need to install it now that H has obtained it for me. Made a really excellent glazed ham for dinner last night, then got ten hours of sleep, so life is looking slightly better. Also because my dog doesn't have Cushing's disease, and although it's likely that she has diabetes insipidus instead (more testing required), that's less serious. TOR: My husband is beta testing The Old Republic. I'm not an MMO person (I'll play TOR because it's Star Wars, not because I play well with others), but he is, and he's impressed by what he's played so far. We're still here, as are our house and our new bridge. We lost a chunk of the lower garden to stream erosion and I'm running a dehumidifier in the living room to dry out a corner of a rug that the skylight dripped on. We lost power for about an hour last night. For us, that's it ( Read more... )

So far, we're fine, our house is fine, and it looks like the brand-new bridge down the road is probably going to make it after all (it was touch-and-go for a while; the water rose to less than a foot under the roadbed), but our valley and Vermont in general are getting frakking slammed by flooding, even worse than what was forecast ( Read more... )

Mostly just heavy rain and moderate wind so far at my house. Stream and brook quite high. One of our skylights is leaking in three places and rain is blowing under the cap atop the pipe for our wood stove and dripping down onto the stove, but nothing a few containers can't catch.
